Brilliant introduction to the history of Enlgand, Scotland, and Wales! Written to spark an interest in history of children so it includes very important English myth and legend in the book, but notes when the information provided is unproven.I bought this because my husband is English and I am American. I have done American history lessons with our 11 year old son over summer break since he was 6. This year my son informed me that he wanted to learn English history. The history of England is much longer and more complicated than American history, and I honestly didn't know as much of it as I should. Since I'm not an expert in the subject I researched to find the best books for an introduction into the long history. This book, the Charles Dickens' book, and the Usborne book came up as the best. My son started reading the first chapter of this himself and was hooked! I then started reading it aloud and the story got my 7 year old daughter hooked too! It is now two weeks from school starting and we are up to the Norman invasion, reading this in tandem with the Usborne illustrated one. Both kids have learned a lot, been entertained, and have a great love of history in part because of my previous entertaining history lessons and now this well written, engaging book.
I highly recommend this for all children and adults, who don't enjoy history. Or even adults who like an entertaining retellling of the history of England.

A good story teller for children ... and even older adults like me. The basic information is helpful. Wish it could be brought up to date.
Great story!! Written to keep children's attention by provoking imagination!
My Eight year old and I love this history book. I wish I had this type of a history book when I was a child. I like history now...so does she.
Amazing book. Very well put together and accurate on all accounts of history. My kids love hearing the stories it has about England
i am so glad i got this book on line, it may be for kids but adults can learn so much from it and it's not all golbbledy gook of unneccessary words, it gets to the point the fun way
i suggest this for all Boomers if you want to get a history of Engand.
This edition is missing chapter 71 - the chapter titles even go from LXX to LXXII. The last paragraph from the missing chapter is printed at the end of chapter LXX which obviously reads out of place.
Although less expensive, this version (published by W L C) does not include any of the images and some of the accompanying text included in the version published by Yesterday's Classics. In addition, the text is larger in the Yesterday's Classics version. I thought it worth spending essentially double to purchase the more complete edition so I returned this book.
